HOW TO CREATE A COUNTER STRIKE 1.6 SERVER Part 1: Download The Server

In this part, I will describe how to download updated Counter-Strike 1.6 server (Steam Version)
Counter-Strike 1.6 server commonly know as Half-Life Dedicated Server (HLDS). You can download it in two way. You can download using SteamCMD.exe or you can use SteamCMD GUI to download your HLDS.
  1. Download HLDS using SteamCMD.exe: To make a Counter-Strike 1.6 server, first of all, you have to download SteamCMD.zip file. Click here to download that zip file. Next, you have to download the hlds.txt file. Click here to download the hlds.txt file. Go to Local Disk C & make a new folder. You can use any name for that new folder as you wish, I used SteamCMD put the hlds.txt file there & also extract SteamCMD.zip file there. After extracting you will get the steamcmd.exe file, make a desktop shortcut of that file i.e. steamcmd.exe. Open the properties of the shortcut & modify the target, don’t delete the previous target just add this with the previous one. Write +runscript hlds.txt after the previous target (view image). Now click on apply & then ok. Double click on SteamCMD icon download will be started automatically. After a successful download, the server files will be at the HLDS folder. The total size of the HLDS folder will be more than 720 MB. If the size of HLDS folder is less than 720 MB re-launch the steamcmd.exe by double click on the desktop shortcut. You can also update your server files by clicking on the shortcut if your server is already downloaded.
  2. Server download Using SteamCMD GUI: You can also download your server using SteamCMD GUI. Click here to download SteamCMD GUI. After download, unzip it in a folder. In that folder, you will get SteamCMD GUI.exe file, double click the file to open it. A GUI (Graphical User Interface) window will open (view picture). You have to link SteamCMD.exe file & a folder (where the server will be downloaded). Select the “Half-Life Dedicated Server” from the dropdown list. Then you have to click on “Update/install” button to download or update the server. Your server will start downloading. If you use this GUI the size of the server will be the same as the previous method i.e. size will be near about 720 MB. If the size is less than 720 MB relaunch the GUI. There are two other tabs in this GUI. One is Run server & another is Console, After successful download, you can run your server using this GUI. You can also able to monitor your server using the console tab.
In the next part, I'll discuss how to configure a counter strike server till then stay tuned.

    1. Thank you for your link and comment. As fer my knowledge goes I provided that link from VALVE Developer community. You can also go and check that page the link is https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamCMD. As HLDS was developed by VALVE that's why I used that link and second thing if you use my link every time you will get updated SteamCMD GUI. Though which link you provided that comes first in Goole search. But I checked the link which I provided, that is still live. Thank you once again.

  2. Even for seasoned veterans the increasing complexity of games can become a turn off. Super Mario World is still as intuitive as it was back in 1990 because the inherently simple design and pick up and play nature of the game made it timeless.https://brawlstarsup.com
