HOW TO CREATE A COUNTER STRIKE 1.6 SERVER Part 3: Configure Your Router

Now this part is very important. If you want to make a LAN server you can skip this part but if you wish to make an internet gaming server you have to forward your server port. Otherwise no one will be able to connect your server. Now press Ctrl+R to open run & type cmd press enter. Command prompt window will open. Then type ipconfig and press enter. It will open your computer's internet protocol configuration. From here you have to note two thinks one, the default gate way IP address and two IPv4 IP address. Nowadays ISP (Internet Service Provider) using router to provide there service. Now you have to configure you route. Basically we can configure our modems or routers in same way. Open a web browser (you can use any web browser). Type you default gateway IP (which you get from ipconfig window) in address bar and press enter. A new popup will appear. Enter your router/ modem’s username & password there. To know your router’s default username & password you can click here. It will open modem/router's configuration page. You can also contact you ISP to collect your router’s username 7 password. Now you have to find port configuration tab, the name of this tab depends on modem/router's service provider, but the main function is same. As there are many router manufacturer it’s impossible to discuss step by step. But you can click here to view your routers step by step configuration. The main object is that you have to forward port No. 27015 (default port for counter strike) from your local IP (IP which you got from ipconfig window). Your router may ask start port & end port in that case you can set any number less than 27015 as start port & any number greater than 27015 as end port all ports will be forwarded at that range. As an example I’m using i-Ball router and my local IP address is 192.168.1.101, my start port 27010 & end port 27030. Now look at the image to see how I have forwarded my ports. And finally you should select both protocol (TCP & UDP) to forward ports as I selected. Otherwise your server will accessible either form TCP users or from UDP users (as per your selection). Save your router configuration & restart your router.

Now in my next blog I'll discuss abut how to run a counter strike server in console mode. Till then stay tuned.
